Yesterday while shopping with one of my students we stepped in to The Pick Market to grab some gluten-free products. She claimed this was her go-to neighborhood spot when in need of a quick bite.
The place was spotless and carried everything from imported condiments, to cured meats, to fancy local wines.
Instantly I was drawn to their cheese display while the smell of fresh breads aerated the room. I stopped mid-sentence after laying eyes on a block of white cheddar, something I’ve yet to see in Buenos Aires. Many grocery shops sell the yellow squared cheeses claiming to be American Cheddar however it’s far from the real deal. This however was a different story. English style sharp cheddar. Not the cheapest (229 pesos per kilo) I bought 150 grams smitten as to what I would make with this coveted cheese.
Cheesy grits is the plan. With hot sauce, green onion, and crumbled chorizo colorado. Now if I could only find some smoked gouda I’d be in BA heaven….
