Stuffed to order cannolis, lemon ice, and seed cakes are the top reasons to go to Angelo Brocato, the first ice cream parlor in New Orleans. Still serving out of its original location on Carrolton Ave and Bienville, this place cranks out Italian cookies, gelato, spumoni, biscotti, and THE BEST CANNOLIS, all made in-house daily. The ambiance is quaint and warm decorated with the same iron tables and chairs from when they opened back in 1905.
The reason I LOVE the cannoli so much is because of the crunchy shell and the dipped ends with crumbled pistachios. I had many cannolis while living in New York and NONE of them lived up to my spoiled standards. A soft cannoli shell covered in chocolate then sprinkled with chocolate chips sitting in the display case for who knows how long, WHAT IS THAT NYC?
So if you find yourself in mid-city and want to break away from the beignet-praline-bananas foster scene, check out Angelo Brocato, you wont be disappointed.
